Facebook have been saying it's changing for quite some time now.... and HostSphere can reveal that the change is almost upon us all!  Facebook's new TimeLine profile style will be rolling out across all accounts in the 2012, however some people have already got access to it.  But what is TimeLine and how will it make things better?

Since the beginning of Facebook, people have used it to share everything from the small stuff, like their thoughts on an article, to the most important events of their lives, like the photos of their wedding or the birth of their child. Back in the day, the profile had a very basic design, nothing too fancy.... Then it had a few revamps and evolved the stucture... and NOW it's undergoing it's biggest change since 2009! 

Time line aims to bring a bit of order to your profile and make things easier to view and find. New Zealand have just had this roll out across all profiles and Facebook am to have this rolled out by the end of February around the world!

Introducing timeline – a new kind of profile

With timeline, now you have a home for all the great stories you've already shared. They don't just vanish as you add new stuff.

Timeline is wider than your old profile, and it's a lot more visual.  The first thing you'll notice is the giant photo right at the top. This is your cover, and it's completely up to you which of your photos you put here.

As you scroll down past your cover, you'll see your posts, photos and life events as they happened in time. You choose what's featured on your timeline. You can star your favorites to double their size or hide things altogether.

Filling in the blanks

If important parts of your story aren't included on your timeline, you can go back to when they happened and add them.

So how do I get a TimeLine Profile

Getting your Facebook TimeLine profile is fairly simple! There are two possible ways available here....

Option 1) The Simple Quick method... This may not work for all, but some people have reported success by this method!  Simply visit:  http://www.facebook.com/about/timeline  Scroll down and click on   SIGN ME UP

Option 2) If option 1 didn't work for you then there is another way! Facebook gives developers early access to timeline so they can develop applications for it. However, you don't really have to be a developer... you just have to pretend you are one! Heres how!! 

Step 1: Visit the Developers section!

Facebook has an area on the site called Developers! This is where we are going to be spending most of this tutorial! So visit:   http://developers.facebook.com/apps  

If you've never used this app before, you'll have to allow it access to y our basic profile information! Don't worry this is perfectly safe and should look similar to the picture below: 

Once you've installed the developer app, you'll need to click on the  "+ Create New App" button that should be showing in the top right of your screen.

Step 2: Make an App

In order to get the timeline profile, we'll be creating a very very simple app that will unlock the timeline profile!  Once you click the Create new app button, you'll be greated with a window where you will be asked to put in two things!  Name and Namespace!   Simple put something like  "NewProfile" for the name and  "yourname-timeline" for the namespace!  The name and namespace must be unique and can not be the same! Click on continue and then you'll be asked to confirm some letters/numbers/captcha style images!

Step 3: Open Graph... don't worry this bit is easy!

On the left hand side of the screen, you'll see a menu option called  "Open Graph" (Screenshot below)

Click the menu option and you should be greated with a new screen! Here you will be filling out two different verbs! ( See english lessons at school did come in handy after all! ) 

For this example we are using  "get" and "example"... but you can choose whatever you wanted! (Screenshot below) 

Step 4: Thats it..... almost!

Finally click on the Get Started button!  After a few minutes, goto your profile page and click refresh! 

You should now see a notification across the top of the screen suggesting you get the new TimeLine Profile.

Click on "Get it now" and have a play!
